Unfinished Symphony is the third of five books in the Logan series by V.C. Andrews.
Melody Logan's story continues in L.A. in an attempt to find her mother and uncover family secrets. Melody succeeds in finding her mother Haille, who is persuaded to let Melody stay with her. When Haille's agent attempts to rape Melody, she flees back to Cape Cod (the decision made easier by the knowledge that her tyrannical Uncle Jacob has died). Before Melody leaves she has one final conversation with Haille who reveals the identity of Melody's real father, Teddy Jackson, a lawyer who has appeared as a minor character in the series. Previously Teddy's son Adam had tried to seduce Melody, which makes the revelation all the more shocking.
When Melody arrives back in Provincetown, she is made to live with Grandmother Olivia, who attempts to limit the contact between Melody and her distant cousin Cary. With the help of her friend Teresa, the two girls are able to plan an evening alone for Melody and Cary, which ends in the two of them consummating their relationship.
Grandmother Olivia has a stroke, and reveals a startling secret: Cary's twin sister Laura is in an institution. She had been placed there by Olivia with the aid of Teddy Jackson. Melody then confronts her biological father. Melody and Cary go to the institution to investigate, but find that Laura has died. The two return to Cape Cod; Grandmother Olivia slips into a coma and then dies, allowing the two to be together without any more issues.
